Student Volunteers

We have had an enthusiastic response from several schools in Delhi - among others, Vasant Valley, Tagore International, Modern School, American Embassy School and the British School. We hold Orientation Workshops in April and October each year.

Some of the projects undertaken by our young volunteers

  • Creating a library for MC children
  • Developing/maintaining our first website
  • Fundraising/clothes and stationery collection drives
  • Art, craft, games, math and language with the kids
  • Word processing/filing
  • What would we do without you?

Since 2004, the American Embassy School Recycling Club collects and sorts used worksheets to regularly supply one-sided paper for art work by MC children. The Club also sponsors full daycare, for a year, of 4-5 children, from the sale of old newspapers. This year, the junior classes made educational kits on “fruits and vegetables”, for use by our little ones!

Geoffrey Bablon designed the website for the Commonwealth Games Campaign in April of 08. His brother, Geraud Bablon, followed suit, in March 09 and worked with our kids at the NBCC centre.

The Nayar brothers – Vivek and Vikram – left Delhi many years ago, but continue to raise funds for MC, from across the seas, through locally sponsored tennis tournaments.

"Murari, a 13-year-old boy, said to me, "Bhaiya, main padhoonga maths". A simple wish - something we take for granted. I discovered that he could do sums real quick; all he needed was a little practice... In a more fortunate setting, he would have excelled... People told me to do social service to make a difference to the lives of others. Well actually, it has changed me ... I believe that genuine social service is twice blessed, and equal. There is no giver and no taker."
