The early years of childhood are a period of maximum growth, vulnerability, as well as maximum dependence on adult care. Hence it is vital that we reach out to the family and other members of the community. The attitudes and actions of parents, grandparents, siblings, neighbours, teachers and social groups deeply influence the world of a child.
We take up pressing issues that affect the day-to-day lives of the community. Hygiene; planned motherhood; adolescent issues; AIDS awareness; alcoholism; drugs; safety on construction sites; gender equity.the list goes on. People are targeted in different ways - one-to-one contact, home visits, mothers' meetings, community discussions, baal melas, religious festivals and cultural shows. Each interaction is a learning and a teaching experience.

Street plays, songs, puppet shows and child art exhibitions are some of the innovative ways in which we spread our message. Our street theatre group, Lokdoot, moves from centre to centre with its lively shows. Lokdoot has been active for the last three decades and its best productions are now being made into videos to reach a wider audience. Daadi maan gayi, focusing on female foeticide, is one such play.
