Children
Nutrition & Healthcare
Mobile Creches conducts the healthcare programme through a multi-pronged approach that combines prevention, cure and rehabilitation. Children exposed to malnourishment and poor hygiene fall easy prey to diarrhoea, respiratory diseases, boils, worms and other everyday ailments. Given their extreme vulnerability, simple precautions like hand-washing and low-cost treatments like oral re-hydration take on critical importance.
- The first 2 years are critical to keeping malnutrition at bay. At our day care centres we provide nutrition to children 3 times a day with caloric value of 500 calories/day/child.
- Breastfeeding - Raising awareness and enabling it by running crèches on site or near the place of work.
- Nutrition - Appropriate and timely weaning foods for the infants; channa, khichdi, porridge, sprouts for the older ones.
- Immunization - Families are directed to non/government health centres; A Health Card for each child records immunizations and critical growth indicators.
- Monitoring - Weekly doctor's visits to monitor growth and address health issues of children/mothers; Special diet of egg/vitamins for the undernourished.
- Awareness / Referrals - Special Camps for eye care, dental treatment, TB / cancer-checks and other ailments.
- In 2007-8 we conducted general health check-ups on 5,705 children; helped administer polio drops to all children who were in contact with Mobile Creches on the stipulated dates; immunized 3,889 children for BCG, measles, DPT I, II, III booster, DT and TT.
